The guitars look very well made indeed particularly the underside. Were it not for cost, I'd love to have one.
I went to the site and the only price listed was for a 2011 S-10 3 + 5 for
CHF 3500 which today was $3692.00
New steels were Preise auf Anfrage so one has to request a price from the builder. I always find that a bit of a bother. Why not just list the prices?
For most non-Europeans shipping and customs would also need to be tacked onto the price and that could be more than most Europeans would have to pay for a Schild, Devis, WBS Jagiella, Promat or other steels made in Europe .
Of course the same thing happens to our European steelers when they buy from the USA or Canada.

| Things are expensive in Europe. Worse in Australia. Granted they have lots of things that they don't buy that we do so there is a bit of a tradeoff. |

Interesting keyless tuner with a lot of string length between the rollers and the tuning levers.

I've checked this site out a few times. I was referred to it by someone here when we were talking about half stops. These guitars look as good as any I have seen. I love the matching formica on the endplates. Someone should buy me the blue one.

Norbert, what do the Schild D-10 8+5, and Schild S-10P 3 +5 with pad cost in CHF?
Chris is correct; Schild steels are different from most steels one would see.
How would you compare them to the German WBS pedal steel? The WBS also looks well-designed and has the option of a Double-Stop which is more solid than a regular feel stop. It also has the option of a Tuning Lock to change the E9 Tuning into a 6th Tuning. |

| There's some thought in there, for sure. With all the problems people have with strings mounting on pins, that break; or slots that drop string balls into the changer, that kind of solution - use bigger pins - seems to escape discussion. |

changing strings on a schild is real easy. there`s a video on the website demonstrating it.
steve, WBS is a great steel guitar, german product, made by a great guy and craftsman, played by many pro players including
sarah jory and more...
as a german myself i know about german quality and am proud of it.
but honestly, the swiss stuff is always a tad above ours.
hard to explain, but i tell you if you see and play a schild in person, youll know.
like i said: ain`t seen nothing equal.
sorry, i don`t know what they cost, but if you consider the incredible work the guy puts in they`re surely not expensive. like most or maybe all steel guitar builders he surely doesn`t make èm to get rich. |

It's mine. 3 and 4, Telonic pickup.
This guitar is from 1992 and plays like butter.
Nobody knows how smooth, soft and precise she is before trying one. And I'have owned a Fulawka D 10 and tried a Franklin D10, but this one is the top. |

Per instruction, on his site, I wrote to Mr. Schild asking him prices for a D-10 and S-10 with pad. So far no response.
Does anybody out there know what these steels cost? Thx. stevet

hi steve,
peter schild is more of an introvert type of guy and propably not the fastest in mail reply.
i guess the price tag is higher than on an american top brand as f ex mullen or rittenberry.
and then you have to add the shipping...
schild thought about coming over to dallas or st louis but i don`t know if he ever will.
his guitars would be sold out quick i`m sure but i guess he`s more of a builder than a businessman.
sound and looks are subjective on a guitar of course but when it comes to mechanics and craftmanship , the schild is not matched by any other guitar i`ve seen.
if you sit behind one you`ll agree!  |

I emailed Peter again asking for prices but have heard nothing yet. Guess I'll keep on trying.
I don't doubt what you have to say about his craftsmanship is true but knowing the price is also important for anyone interested in buying a steel, unless one has lots and lots of money.
The Anapeg guitar (no longer made from what I understand) was also highly crafted. Do a search on The Forum if you do not know about it.

they´re rare most of "em are in switzerland and france i guess.
yes, steve, peter schild told me about anapeg guitars when i was visiting with him.
he said he never saw one in person but was impressed from what he saw on his website.
i`m sorry for you not having heard about him, he is a nice guy and a real genius.

| Norbert, your double post notwithstanding .... There could actually be one Schild steel in the U.S. I remember Jürg Oswald telling me many years ago that an American player visiting Switzerland had bought a Schild. Unfortunately, we can no longer ask him who that person was. |

Interesting photo of their Antriebswelle / Zughebel (Drive Shaft / pull lever). The bell-crank has a wire return spring. The wire end contacts the underside of the cabinet. That might couple body resonance into the pull train. Certainly no accident. That stuff matters.
