Does anyone use a dolly to move a fully set up single neck?

Whatever dolly you use, Lee, it's gonna' be tricky. A dolly that tall will have a high center of gravity unless the base is really big and heavy. Think your best bet would be to turn the steel upside down on a padded dolly. Move it to where you want it, and turn it upright.

Seems like using a dolly will scratch the steel up bad. I use a dolly for amps but I manually carry the steel fully put together.

I use a Dolly all the time to move my steel. I keep it fully setup inside my gig van (also my pack seat's set up as well) and just set it outside and roll the dolly to the front of it and the lip goes under the pedalboard and it's good to go.... Sometimes I have to take it off if the doors too narrow for the width of the steel... Mine is a single wide BMI 12 string w/ 8 FP & 5 KL. I have a cover for the steel so I don't worry about scratches but if I didn't have that I'd just throw a towel over it......JH in Va.

I have a dolly I made for a D-10 that has 4 wheels and goes in a SUV with a tall enough rear door, has ropes and clips to hold the steel to it and bungees to the seat belt bracket, so it can be done, more like a cart than a dolly though.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to do this. A guitar in the case is so much easier to handle and is protected from damage. The time necessary to set up a pedal steel is pretty insignificant, it seems to me. Maybe 5 minutes for a D-10, quite a bit less for an S-10. If lifting the guitar out of the case is a problem just put the case on a table or 2 chairs before setting up; problem solved.

Bill the reason I use a cart is I play four & sometimes five different places a week and it's less wear and tear on the steel than taking it apart that many times as long as it is secured to the cart well. I tried laying on it's side in the back of the car but didn't like for the back legs to be suspended in the air.

I never put mine in a case . Ihaul it completely together but no one else touches it unless. They know what they are doing, usually another picky muscian. Has worked for me for years. No damage
