Locate the 5th note in the chord and raise it a half-tone so it becomes a #5 |

All the posters are correct. An augmented is made up of two major thirds, IE, two notes separared by 4 frets. And it repeats itself every four frets. So, a nice embellishment often is to slide the bar (after picking the aug) 4 frets, then four more frets and then finish at the octave fret.
A diminished is very similar, it is made up of 3 minor thirds (two notes separated by 3 frets) and it repeats itself every 3 frets. Again you can do the same lick as above; only slide 3 frets in each case.
3 x 4 = 12
4 x 3 = 12
Good luck,

And on C6 the "easy way" is strings 4-5-6, with pedals 6 and 7. |

Hey! I didn't know about the one fret back ABF form. Just ran to my guitar to try it, works great. Thanks a lot! |

Just an example using the A+B+F position one fret back from the NP position. Some interesting voice leading with aug and dim (or 7b9) harmonies
4---------------------------------------------
5--5--4A--5A--6-1/2A--7A--7 1/A--5A--5 1/A--5-
6--5--4B--5B--6 B-----7B--7B-----5B--5B-----5-
7---------5---6-------7---7------5---5------5-
8--5--4F--------------------------------------
A A+ Bm Cdim C#m F#7b9 Bm E7b9 Aadd9
the second chord can also be played
4-----
5--5-1/2A
6--5-
7----
8--5-
A+
This is what it sounds like [This message was edited by Larry Bell on 08 October 2003 at 09:12 AM.] |
