Here is one of my pal doing "We Could" on Jack Strayhorn's black Emmons.

Still sounds like William, but there is still a little bit of difference in tonality from his usual Legrande III's sound. A little sharper, not as round, maybe. A different type of chime. Joe Barcus also has a sweet red LeGrande. An Emmons is still an Emmons.

Why can't I get it to sound like that? Interesting fact, Tim Carey, our body builder for many years, ran across a board of maple that was noticably more dense and heavier than normal and built this body for me. It is serial #1000. Did it make a difference? Who knows! I think it is a very good sounding guitar but better than normal, that's in the ear of the beholder. The guitar plays very smooth and easy which would have nothing to do with the body. William would love to have it but I can't part with it because it was a gift from Ron Lashley. Maybe I will leave it to him in my will! Where ever it ends up I hope it is loved and enjoyed and respected.

Thanks for giving us some background, Jack. I love hearing about stuff like that, what goes into these instruments. There have been noticeable differences in the various LeGrandes William's featured in his videos..yours, Steve Palousek's also comes to mind, and of course William's old faithful. Your #1000 has a real classic flair to it. It's very noticeable when you compare it to his other videos from the same period and camera set-up. It's not a scientific comparison, but it sure is enjoyable.

William does a great job on this song. I think the tone comes 90% from the player and 10% from the guitar. That said, great players may still play better on a better sounding guitar, maybe they are more inspired when they play.

Ah Hah! I gotcha now. See there William you never showed your face on this one and bunches of other videos you have on YouTube.
I know you got a bunch of good steel players posting video’s on You Tube pretending to be you.
Nobody has got enough time to put all those hundreds of steel guitar songs on You Tube by their self.
That’s got to be you on the Saturday live lessons for sure, nobody could act like that.
