The front panel of mica has come totally loose (falling off) on my Carter U12. What is the best adhesive to re-attach it and the 2 pieces of aluminum trim? Thanks, Larry _________________ Website: www.Music2myEars.net

Contact cement. Don't get the green can. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I agree, contact adhesive. Follow directions carefully on the can. Don't rush it. You only get one shot. It is a one-way trip. |

At Emmons we used Formica brand contact cement for the front panel and inlay only. |

Larry, if you didn't play it so hard and fast, the parts might not vibrate off!! |

Gary-HaHa! Actually it did not vibrate off, the steel got so hot from my playing that it melted the glue! (I wish!) Thanks to you other guys for the feedback. I've used contact cement on many projects, so I guess I'll go with that unless I find something better. _________________ Website: www.Music2myEars.net

Larry
Have you got that glued on yet?
I'd be glad to borrow that Fessy U12 with the Alumitone PU if you need to clear some space to work on it.

I like contact cement for a lot of applications, including mica. But, as mentioned, you have to be careful. You only get one chance to put the two pieces together because once they touch each other they are set and aren't coming apart. |
