Byron Jones' son, Kevin, plays steel at the Opry. I don't know if he is on the forum or not.

Ok, thanks Jack. I'll be working around the Murray RR Yard for the next couple of weeks, thought I may get an opportunity to check out a show and hear some good pickers?

The Northtown Opry on Swift is closed for the winter, if my dad (Byron Jones) opens back up it will be in the spring sometime but as of now there is no set time for the show to open. If we do open I will post it on the Forum. Thanks for asking!

Thanks Jack, Wesley, and Kevin. That's real encouraging. I'd like to see a show or two.
And I'm close for now...I'm building a road at the Wheeler airport levee, under the Broadway and Hannibal Bridges, as we've got some repairs to make on the RR bridge and it's just a marsh down there. This project may last clear up until summer, so I'll be around.
I'll keep my eyes open on the event announcements!

I think there is an Opry in Edgerton that's still going (near Smithville).

There's another over in Kansas, that the President of the Heartland (KC) Steel Club works but a little further away.

That brings up another possibility. The steel club has their jams at the Northtowne Opry location.

I know of an Opry in Quenemo, Ks...is that the one? We built two bridges near there , last year. I stopped in and visited with a co-owner, named Ralph...a real nice fellow! He invited me to a show, but I still haven't made it because I live so far away, and I've got 4 teen girls and a 5 year old son...by Thursday, I'm generally heading home and thankful to be going.
:)
If I'm in the area, and am commissioned to work a weekend, I'll be there! Thanks for the info, I sincerely hope I get to see Kevin, in action!
BTW, Kevin, if and when...I'll be sure to introduce myself and bombard you with questions and steel talk! Ha!
Thanks Jack, for the info and the link

That's not the Kansas Opry I was referring to.

Its the "Middle Creek" opry in Louisburg.

If you like good old gospel we have Rutlader Cowboy Church every Tuesday night south of Louisburg, Ks @ 7pm right by the Middle Creek Opry. I've been in band over 5 yrs. Take 69 highway south of Louisburg (about 5 miles) to 335th exit go left 1/2 mile to stop sign turn right then left into complex. There's also a rv park there we are down from the opry house about 5 0r 6 doors ( do not eat before you come) Wes The opry generally open's the 2nd or 3rd Sat in March is an excellent show.

So back to the Northtown Orpy on Swift in North Kansas City as Kevin Jones mentioned their regular season will start up after winter. And yes as already mentioned, the Heartland Steel Guitar Association holds their jams there independent of snow, rain, sleet, hail, and of course winter. Here is a little unplanned, impromptu and totally spontaneous video of some of the things we did from our last jam.

Spectators and players are always welcome and events are free of charge.

Edward,
Fwiw, I play a weekly Sunday 5PM ~> Opry show in
Weston, Mo, which is half an hour from Murray Yard.
The instrumentation is Steel, Bass, Drum and Piano,
so there is plenty of Steel in the mix to be had.
Let me know of you're interested in checkin' it out.

Thank you Russ, that is a real possibility for me. I travel up on Sunday's, and generally go back home Thursday, however, occasionally, I may be asked to work through the weekend. I appreciate all the kindness and encouragement. My being that far from home has all but killed my opportunity and drive to commit to a band, the last couple of years. I miss it, but it has given me time to begin learning PSG.
