Hi! :D My name i s Vic switzer. I am brand new to
the forum. I've been playing steel guitar since
1974. My wife and I host the Central Iowa steel
Guitar show, the first Sunday of the month in May.
I'm 61 and I would like to work on steel guitars
during my retirement years. I love the instrument
and working on them. I would like feedback on a
projected need of this service.

Thanks!
Vic :)

vic, i don't know anything about steel players in iowa, but i bet if you just put the word out you'll find people who need your services. pass out fliers at your steel show and keep yourself listed here on the forum.

Since DeVere Adamson retired there hasn't been anyone in the state that I'm aware of. DeVere always did a stellar job on my Emmons D10 Push Pull and even though it sits in the case now since I mostly play my Justice single neck, it would be nice to have somebody within a day's drive if I want to get maintenance on it or the Justice for that matter (although taking the Justice back to Fred gives me a great excuse to go south).

Hi Vic,
I've done a few setups and repairs on a few guitars over the years. I don't advertise it as a sideline, just inquires from a few in the area needing help. Since steel players are slowly becoming few in Iowa, you'd probably have to advertise on the Forum and steel shows and maybe conjure up a sideline retirement business?
I hope you're band is still intact and staying busy. Not much going on in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area anymore, unlike the 1970's & 80's. Live music in general is very slow.

First I want to say thanks alot for taking time
to reply! I would like everyone to keep giving the
feedback. I would like to be up front with everyone.
I have worked on guitars for a long time and have
changed tunings, taken them apart and cleaned and
oiled, changed strings, made setups, buffed and
polished on all pulls and push pulls. I can handle
many tasks but I feel the need for some more tech.
training is warranted. Rest assured that I plan on
doing this, and will update frequent postings.

thanks! Vic :)
