I don't want tabliture for this song. I'm just trying to understand the chord progression. Years ago my brother Mike figured this out for me, but I forgot it.
The thing of it is, I have no trouble finding the melody line notes, but can't seem to figure out the exact accompaning chords. Is there a 3-6-2-5 leading back to the 1? Thanks, Tommy.....

The 3-6-2-5 is probably correct,,,Hank seemed to like the cycle of 5th's (or 4th's,,whichever way you want to look at it),,,,probably from his Merle Travis influence,,,,

Man, I miss Mike,,,what a loss,,,,,

There are two versions I found on youtube...."Green Light", and "The New Green Light." When I first listened, I really wanted to play 1-6-2-5 and back to the 1 for the last two lines...but after listening closely, that just isn't what's happening. If you listen closely (pay attention to the bass) the new version uses a slightly simpler pattern.
Green Light: 1-6-4-5-1
New Green Light: 1-6-5-1

Here are the chords I hear....

Green Light: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snQylkM3RZg
I turn your [C] hole card [F] upside [C]down
I caught you cheatin' [D] and runnin' [G] around
There's a [G7] smile upon your face while [C] another takes my [A] place
And now at [F] last dear [G] the truth I'd [C] found

New Green Light: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWJa1lpoSBg (note that the intro is just 5-1)
I turn [C] your hole card [F] upside [C] down
I caught you cheatin' and runnin' [G] around
There's a [G7] smile upon your face while [C] another takes my [A] place
And now at [G] last dear the truth I'd [C] found

Tommy: That should clear it up. Having the chord changes with the lyrics is a big help. Thanks, Tommy.....
