Hi all -
I am purchasing Pat G's beauty and having never owned a ZB, am trying to find out a little background about them.
First, what's the difference between a ZB and a ZB "Custom"?
Greg, are you the guy with all the spare parts? Hopefully won't be needing any for some time but just wanted to check.....been reading through some ZB posts - it's great to have resources like you, Billy (etc. all) on the forum.
Lastly, what do you guys use for amps and/or effects?....I have always played my Emmons's (and now my Carter) "vanilla", right into a Nashville 400. No effects. I do have a Twin (well, it's called "The Twin") Reverb and I hear ZB's sound great through tube amps. I'd love other opinions although I'm sure I'll do some experimenting of my own.
Can't wait to see and hear this thing....!!

Is anybody ever satisfied with their tone? I keep experimenting. But the closest I've come to being satisfied with the tone of my ZB is using a Memory Man Deluxe delay into a Session 400 w/JBL. Good luck.

HI Scott;
Welcome to the ZB Family! You'll find lots of information on ZBs here from previous posts and also from ZB players - like you!
I have several ZBs and they all sound great through both tube and solid state amps. You can get a warmer and also grittier (slightly distorted) sound from Fenders and all tube amps - which I really like - and a cleaner, smoother sound from Peaveys. I've tried 'em both and the guitars all sound great, different, but great.
I don't think you'll be disappointed, either way. And, as Shoe says, most steel players (myself included) are NEVER totally satisfied with their sound (or their playing). My advice - get a good amp (tube or solid state), dial it in, and spend ten hours playing for every one hour you spend thinking about buying another amp or tweaking your existing one.
Also - can you send me the serial number of the guitar once you get it?
Thanks!

Larry -
Thanks, yes I will send you the serial number (actually I think it's on the forum here somewhere but I'll verify). Cool project that you are doing and I'll gladly contribute my info. once I get the guitar.
Shoe is right - searching for the perfect tone seems to be a never-ending quest amongst steelers. Hopefully the ZB puts me somewhere close to Nirvana! |

Scott, Billy Knowles refurbed that ZB you are getting, so it is gonna be right. I do have plenty of parts here should you ever need any or want to add knees/changes etc.
Welcome to the ZB family!!!!

Greg -
Thanks! You "ZB guys" are great.
I don't imagine I'll be adding any knees for a while (maybe ever), but I may want to make a change to the right knee (it's opposite of my current and previous guitars) if I can't get used to it. But I am hoping it's just like driving 2 different cars - after a while you just don't even think about it....
Now for the 60 million dollar question - if I do want to make a change, how tough is it? |

BTW, I have a DeWitt Scott E9 anthology book with lots of pics. There's a guy playing a ZB Custom named Wally Murphy - does anyone know who he is or who he played with? (Hope he's not TOO famous).... |
