I have Buzz Evans "Swinging Christmas" on rotation in my car. Buzz plays all the guitar and bass parts as well as the pedal steel parts.
What an enjoyable CD.
So what's your favorite steel guitar Christmas music? |

For me, it started with "Seven Gates" by steel guitarist Ben Keith, then later on, it was Buddy Emmons' Christmas Sounds of The Steel Guitar. Now, ther's one that's not really a steel Christmas record, but it features Tommy White on steel called Christmas in Nashville |

|
|
JERRY BYRD has a CD out that utilizes a lot of C-Diatonic tuning........"CHRISTMAS IN HAWAII"......
Jerry Byrd can be heard on another Christmas album by
the Lovin Brothers. It's truly a beautiful collection of traditional songs delivered in the old fashioned way. The Lovin Brothers Christmas..
Can't recall now who the 'brothers' are but I'm sure someone of you will know and update this post. |

Man those tunes are smooth....
Merry Christmas, Phillip.
My traditional favorites are by Larry Bell, delivered to our door every year,
and now an album on my drive. |

There's been some very good stuff done but it's Buddy's album for me.
His tone is perfect and his recording has such high production values on top of his exquisite playing. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

Thanks to Brett and Bob for posting about the Ben Keith
CD "Seven Gates" which I was not aware of. Now, one is on the way to me.
Since I learn so much from the posts on this forum, I would like to mention a few more CDs in addition to Buddy's Christmas CD and Paul's Christmas Collection in case someone else might not have heard of them. Billy Cooper has a Christmas CD "Christmas Steel Guitar" and Mike Sweeney has one titled "A Christmas Gift." Also, while they are not all steel guitar CDs, Buddy played on Clinton Gregory's CD "For Christmas" and Paul played on George Strait's "Fresh Cut Christmas" CD. All of these are great Christmas CDs with excellent steel work.

Pretty hard for me to choose, so I won't. I love both Buddy's and Paul's Christmas albums. They are wonderful pieces of art.

Altho' it's NOT an album.......
Red Foley's single "OUR CHRISTMAS WALTZ" backed with
"HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS"...shows BILLY ROBINSON at his best.
His BIGSBY tone and smooth style, made him both enjoyable to listen to and to marvel at his technique. |

OMG Red Foley. I've wondered who his steeler was. I first fell in love with his playing way back in the early 60s.

Buddy Emmons: Christmas Sounds of the Steel Guitar gets the top spot on my list with Paul, Doug, Dicky, and Jerry close behind.
also it wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas with Chet Atkins
