Well, looks like my wife & I have a Christmas gig! A local Community Center is serving Christmas meals Dec 25 from 4PM - 6PM, and we will be providing some Christmas music. Wife plays piano (very well!) and I'll be doing steel and maybe even sing a few tunes. Looking forward to it. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

Amen to that Scott. I usually play bass in my church band, but pulled the steel out Sunday for Christmas Music. This was my first public performance since starting steel a year ago.
Silent Night and The Angels Cried were fine, since both were basic chord progressions and in major keys. Now, Mary Did You Know (Gm) and O Come, O Come Emannuel (Am) were a bit more of a challenge. I couldn't fake my way through them by playing their relative majors either.
I basically did two note chords with a bit of movement as a theme to back the singers on all songs. I some of the melody on Silent night as an instrumental break and a lot of melody (piano part) backing the singer on Mary Did You Know. I completely botched my solo on O Come. I'm not sure how it all sounded out front though, as I was playing with in-ear monitors. They had me painfully loud in my monitor, so I barely stepped on the volume pedal the whole time. I'm hoping to get a copy of the service to see how it turned out.
On a better note, my wife and I hosted a musical benefit at a local bar Saturday night for a local Christmas Day meal that her brother runs every year. They served and delivered over 1600 meals last year to the homeless, poor, and elderly shut ins. We had tons of help from local musicians and got a lot of raffle prizes from local businesses for the event. In the end, we raised over $1700 for the Christmas meal which will feed over 650 people. Everyone was happy, generous and had a great time!!
God Bless you for what you do Scott. Have a Merry Christmas!! |

Last year, our cantata at church was Southern Gospel Christmas themed, and NONE of the sound tracks had steel on them! But, I added steel to
Come & See What's Happenin' in the Barn
Mary Was The First One
and
Not An Ordinary Baby
A quartet of choir members as well as the choir sang the first two, then a good alto sang the solo in the last one, with choir on the choruses. Man, did we have fun!
My wife has some solo piano songs she does, and I have the tracks for the above songs, so I will do those as my solos for our Christmas gig. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

Well, we made it through it. Lots of good fellowship, food, and music. We played, had some new and old folks sing with us, I played with some folks I didn't know, etc, etc, etc.
And on thing... I forgot how HEAVY Jean's piano is in the case! _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)
