Hey there fellow steelers I have a question. I have a few guitars one of them being a Dekley that I really llike. It has great action, great tone and stays in tune. Problem with it is that it's 40 years old and worn out. I'd like to have it restored. Is there anyone who would be willing to overhaul my Dekley? How much would I be looking to spend? Before you comment that it would cost more than the guitar is worth, I already understand that. I'd appreciate any input on this.

Thanks,

James

James I had a D10 Dekley for a long time. I don't think it would ever not be worth rebuilding.

I suppose if you define rebuilding or what you would expect.

Is it in good cosmetic shape?

What do you believe is worn out?

Are you satisfied with its features or would you want to add to it?

That's my opinion from having owned one and worked on it.

You should list all the stuff you want done. And for my money you should talk to Jim Smith and / or Jerry Fessenden and get their opinions.

I would be willing to bid on doing the work on it.

They are good guitars. Heavy, but good guitars.

The cabinet is in great shape. I'll add some photos when I get to it. The only thing cosmetically I'd like to repair is the formica(or whatever wood it is) on the pedal rack which is in bad shape. I'd like to have that repaired.
Mechanically
1. One of the tuners on the key head is scratchy when turned. It works fine I'm just worried about it failing in the future.

2. The aluminum pedal stops where the rods hook up are stretching. The one that the b pedal goes into broke. Micheal Yahll sent me a steel one which was a sufficient fix but the pedal rod doesn't fit quite right and the rod rubs against the cabinet.

3. I'd like to have some of the modern pulls. I'd like the b lower on a verticle lever(which it currently doesn't have) to free up my right knee left for a sixth string lower as well as raise one and two. Would a half stop be possible there to raise the second string? Also I'd like to have compensating rods on my B strings for a split. It is a double raise double lower changer so I may be asking a lot.

4. The allen set screws on the bell cranks suck. They were probably ok at one point but many of them are stripped out. I'd like to have some sort of better system to move bell cranks.

I am Mechanically competent I'd just like a pro to get this guitar singing like it should.

Give Paul Redmond a call; he refurbished my Dekley. He is a master builder. His work is impeccable. And if something is broken or worn or even a bad design, Paul can make an even better part. My opinion.
