Need shorter legs
I have an Excel D10 that I need to have the front legs shorter by 2". Is there a easy way to do this, or do you know someone who can do it for me?
Kevin, do you mean the legs which hold the pedal bar? Or do you mean the legs near the player?
I had to drop my whole guitar 1", so I went to the Mechanical Engineering department of our local University. They cut off the top of the 2 front legs, including the "plug" which threads into the body. Then they chiselled the off-cuts open the get the plugs out. Then the plugs were pushed back in the shorter leg with a hammer and a woodblock.
For the 2 back legs near the player they just cut off the inner tubes.
I also had to shorten the 8 pedal rods, so they cut off the part with the threads on it. Then they re-threaded the rods. I kept the off-cuts and found nuts for them. So I can restore the guitar to its original height. Just in case I sell it.
Alternatively you buy a set of new or used legs and cut them short. If you keep them, you can use them on any other guitar as well.

Well, I cut my front legs off 2", I used a die grinder to get the threaded slug out. Then I hammered the studs back into the legs with a piece of brass. It was a piece of cake, only took me 1/2 hr. Now my problem is getting the rod cut off and threaded. Fuzzy must have used UFO metel on these rods they are extremely hard to thread. I'll keep working at it. If you have any ideas, let me know Thanks
