Pros/Cons of Stainless Steel Strings

Post by David Mason »

Do they last longer or sound better? I know you're not supposed to use a stainless bar on them, but what is the reasoning behind using them? Do they wear out your changer fingers faster?

Well I just used a set for two weeks, and they are just now going dead. I play the hell out of them, and it's only the .017 and the .020, and according to GHS they're swedish steel anyhow. ( And I'm a Norwegian.) Sure seems strings stayed brassy sounding longer years ago. Maybe that was because I could hear the highs...

The Stainless wounds are still "boingy", so we'll see. So far I like them.
