To Maurice A: my MSA's year?

Post by Chris Brooks »

Hi Mr Anderson,

The MSA SD 12 Vintage XL I bought from Bill Erb (Mark Tomeo's old axe) is # 1C6478. Can you help me with the year?

Does XL mean long scale?

It's a heavy old beast to move around, so I guess I'll keep it set up in the apartment to practice on, and gig on my Carter.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Chris B....First of all may I tell you how much I appreciate your being a part of the MSA family.

Your guitar, serial number 1C-6478 was originally shipped to Scotty's Music in St.Louis. (date of manufacture was not entered into record)

Bill Tomeo could have been the first owner, but after we ship to the original destination our tracking system terminated with the exception of the warranty cards, which have long since been misplaced.

The "XL" was a model designation and had nothing to do with the scale of the guitar. All MSA's have always utilized a 24 inch scale.

Thanks for the information. I have 2 MSAs: this one and a D12, that was a real workhorse for years. I am proud to have been in the MSA family for nearly 3 decades.

And best of luck in the Millennium venture, Mr. Anderson.

Of course, Reece is our "expert" on this, but with a serial number that high (and being a "Vintage XL"), it's probably one of the "newer" old MSA's. My "guess" would be about 1979.
