Bar Discoloration

I use a B.J.S. 7/8" plain bar. I noticed that soon after I got it, some dark spots appeared, mostly by the bullet end. It is not perceptible to the touch. Will this affect my sound? Should this happen, or is the bar defective? It's only about 5 months old.
Thanks from a beginner.
[This message was edited by Lawrence Lupkin on 02 May 2003 at 09:15 AM.]

If you play C6, make sure the dark spots are in contact with the strings, you will notice a considerable improvement in tone.

No, if you can't feel them with your fingernail, they probably won't affect the sound. However, they are a sign that something is amiss. If they won't easily polish off (with a paper towel and some toothpaste), I'd contact them and request a replacement...while it's still "nearly new".
[This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 02 May 2003 at 04:39 PM.]

Lawrence,
If I were you I'd contact Bill Stroud. I've been using BJS bars for many years and have never had a reason to contact him, but everyone I've talked to who have had ANY problem have had their bars replaced NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I understand he is really interested in knowing about any problems so he can improve his product.

It`s the chrome that comes off. It have happend to two bars of mine.
I belive Bill got a lifetime warranty on the BJS bars. He replaced mine without a question asked.
I think he just re-chromes the bars and then they are likenew.
Bill are a very good guy.
Thanks,

I had a similar problem with one of their 15/16" bars; It looked like the chrome had
been buffed off in a few spots. I called
BJS; the person I talked to said to mail it to them; they sent me a new one immediately -
I had it in less than a week from the time I sent mine back.
