C6 : Ab or Bb; most important?

I have 1 LKL on C6 right now it's an A4 1/2 lower. But I see a few Tab things requesting the other way. Comments<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 28 April 2003 at 10:17 AM.]</p></FONT>

Probably the two most used knee levers on C6 would be the third string C to B lower and the fourth string A to Bb raise, in that order.

Bob is correct.

The following is usually the way players have them.

Just two knee levers:

RKR lowers 3 a half a tone.

RKL raises 4 a half a tone.

Note: more and more players are reversing these knee levers.

With 4 knee levers:

RKR raises 3 and 7 a half a tone.

RKL lowers 3 a half a tone.

LKR raises 4 a half a tone.

LKL lowers 4 a half a tone.

Note: some players include the 8th string (octave) change with LKR and LKL.

A to Bb, hands down

I switched my 4th pedal from A->B to A->Bb, because I didn't seem to need the first change for anything much. Question: does the A->Bb belong on a knee lever because it is used in combination with certain other pedals?

Get more kneelevers; you will not regret it.

I'd nominate lowering the 3rd as the most important, with raising it to C# a close second (with 'D' on the top string, of course). After that, I'd say raising the 4th is next, but I find I use the 4th string 'lower' (A to Ab - my RKL) the least of all.

I'm enjoying the 'old' 4th pedal ('A's to 'B') more and more - I took it off once in favour of raising 6 and 10, but it's back to stay now!

Yes, I think it should be on a knee if possible but I'd just like to add that both of those changes are important so do what ever you must to get them both.

At the moment I have
RKR raises 3 and 7 a half a tone.

RKL lowers 3 a half a tone.

LKL lowers 4 a half a tone.

I knew I needed LKR raises 4 a half a tone.
But was worried I would find hidden import costs, so I decided to wait till I got the Bud here.
There was a RKL2 on E9 and I had it moved to LKL on C6.
I am thinking I should switch it shortly to raise not lower, and switch back when I get lever 7 LKR.

I believe raising 4 from A to Bb should be on a knee lever; because it is used with pedal 5 or 6; or both. A lot in my case. The four knee levers I listed makes a well rounded (IMO) C6 setup. Another change I like is to raise 6 a half a tone and lower 2 a half a tone. Some call this the reverse pedal 6 change.

Yet still another change which is starting to come into vogue is lowering 5 a whole tone. I like this change on a knee lever so it can be used with pedal 6 to give that often needed middle root note.

Another great resolve is to pick strings 3, 5 and 8; then engage pedal 5; and then lower the 5th string another half tone with the knee lever, and let off pedal 5. Nice change.

I use the A to Bb lever a lot more than I use A to Ab. I wouldn't want to have to move my foot to get it.

I am considering adding a C6 LKV also.

So maybe this change on it. Or LKL and the lower on the LKV. The LKV might be easier with P6. So the Ab on the LKL.
What do Johnny Crawford or Buddy Cage do? (a massive question lol)

Herby Wallace has a change where he lowers the 5th string from a G to an F and raises the 10th string from C to D. I've put this on a vertical lever to try it out. I have the other 4 knee levers set up very similiar to the way Carl recommended. I have the left knee levers reversed and have included the octave changes on the 8th string.

Carl is right on as usual! All those pulls are important IMO, and should be on Knee levers to go with p5 and p6 .

And Carl's 5 string G(fifth) going down a whole tone to F gives a Sub-Dominant F major 7th .And with P6 F7.

To go a little further, along with that pull , I also lower the 6th string E (third) a whole tone to D.both pulls together gives a Sub-Dominant full F6.

Also the E to D lower, gives the 7th to the P5 D7th chord. Several of the Biggies use one or both of these pulls. Reece has used them as far back as I can remember in the 60's. He was way ahead of his time....al Image Image

My local professor, Stephane, came by today. With his assistance I just dropped the Ab in favor of the Bb. Now THAT's a really usefull change! It just opened up so many possibilities. The Ab never found a home, but this Bb has several right off the bat.
Thanks to all for the advice here.
