Mullen D-10 tuning question

I recently popped the 10th string... yes, that's right... the 10th string...
When I restrung it, I really had a hard time tuning the A pedal back. When I would get the pedal tuned right, the string would be sharp, then if I raised the left knee lever, the string would go back down into tune.
After loosening the hex tuner on the end plate until it did not pull at all, I would tune the string back to pitch, then bring the hex tuner back into pitch for the A pedal.
I would still have an issue with the release of the pedal returning the string to somewhere 1/4 tone sharp unless I raised the knee lever.
Now, after fooling around with it, I got the string tuning pretty close and the pedal pretty close, but now I sometimes hear a click somewhere near the changer.
I have felt around down there while working the pedal, but cannot find anything catching or binding.
I am stumped.
Any thoughts?
