I found a cheap inexpensive, way to cover your guitar, that fits good, and drapes all the way to the floor, and its made of vinyl. Go to wal-mart and by you a {Full length cart grill cover} is the name, in other words a Bar-B-Que grill cover, size 59x19x34 and it cost $6.95, and it will really help keep the dust from the bottom and top of your guitar. Just thought I would just throw this in, and if you dont like it you can throw it back out.

I've found something that works very well as a cover for my steel guitar. I just turn the case upside down over the guitar. This not only keeps dust off of it but also protects it from damage if something was dropped on it. (Also makes a nice picnic table)

Hmmm. A Bar-B-Q pit cover for steel. It makes sense. My playing is pretty PITiful.

Great idea Jim! -- That's like the little M&M round plastic containers make good bar containers.--- Another idea, I take a simple sponge (3 X 4 or so), cut a "V" in the center and set it on my stand beside the guitar to put my bar into when I want to set it down. Also cut a "slit" in the sponge to stick the picks down into.

Yeah Lee, I really feel sorry for all you Texas steelers, that say you cant play, Where do you think all of us on the East side of the Mississippi river, stole our licks from? Buck thats a good ideah, in fact I dropped one of my prize picks sat nite at the gig, it rolled out on the dance floor, and before I could grab it a two stepper, dead centered it. It takes me forever to get a new pick bent to my fingers. As for as the covers concerned, there's been many times that I wished I had one to have crawled under my guitar to dodged beer cans, in some of the wild wooley places I've had to play!

Thanks for the tip on the dust cover. Man-talk about ingenuity..I beat feet down to the local WalMart this morning to get mine. Fortunately there were plenty left. Guess I beat out all the PSGérs in Sioux City Iowa. And the triple snap bag it comes in is pretty sharp too. (Just haven't quite figured out what to use IT for) Now all I need is a huge ShoBud stencil so I can spray paint the front of the cover...heh heh...PRO-FESH-A-NULL

I didn't see this thread and I made one out
of clear plastic sheet and clear duct tape.
And no, I didn't buy this stuff for a bioterrorism attack

My question is....is this an OK long term solution? Does anyone know if clear plastic sheets have any long-term detrimental effects on the metal or anything?

I like the BBQ grill cover idea and might have gone for it except that my wife will think it's ugly of course, i could always throw a tapestry over that

Omar if she is like mine she will come up with a way tomake it look better. My gal has a thing for vis-queen. If it is still for more than two minutes she covers it up. Course she also color cordinates guitar straps for me. Doesn't matter if it kills my shoulder, the main thing is it is the right color for the guitar. She has me trained so I think I'll let her keep me.

59" x 19" x 34" sounds a little oversized to me. If you want a nice custom fitted padded vinyl cover for your steel,just take your steel down to your neighborhood car upholsterer. He can usually make it out of his remnant pile while you wait - for around $20. For a few more bucks he'll make you a matching amp cover. -MJ-

I have a good friend here in town who had a western store and specialized in custom saddles. He made me a cover from material used for seat covers in an automobile. He even has 2 straps with velcrow on the bottom side. The great thing about this cover is it not only keeps dust off, it keeps others from messing with the guitar when I am not around. I might mention that the price was right as well, he gave it to me...Paul

I would get a large towell and put it over your steel before you cover it with plastic.
The plastic may sweat and the moisture could damage the finish,

I like the upholstery shop idea better,especialy if the material has a felt type backing(like the one I have),I had my packseat recovered and had the psg cover made of the same material,color...

How does plastic sweat? Is this just condensation from moisture in the air?
I had originally covered the steel with a
tapestry but the fibers from the tapestry
were getting into the changer and it didn't
really serve the purpose of keeping the thing clean. Maybe
all I need is a felt pad under the plastic and I'll have a multi layered solution!

I put a sheet of clear plastic over my guitar and I have no problems. It's such a great looking guitar that I don't want to hide it.

If you live near the water, go to any boat canvas shop. They can make you amp covers or whatever and they are usually reasonable
