How many times have you tried an amp, didn't like it. Got another amp, didn't like it, then another amp, didn't like it either, etc, etc. Searching for the sound that is in your head that you just can't coax out of the amp.

My experience right now of removing the 15 inch BW 1501 from my Evans FET 500 and replacing it with an Eminence EPS 12c really has me thinking. The Evans does not sound anything like it did before with the BW in it. Whole different amp sound and much better.

Are we overlooking changing speakers as an option instead of changing amps? It's a lot cheaper.

I made up a "jumper" cable with a zip (lamp) cord. Left the wires bare on one end and put alligator clips on the other end. This gives me the versatility that I need to quickly go from one speaker in one amp to the speaker out wires in the other amp.

I agree George. Amps can vary, but I'd say speakers vary much more.

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus!

Speaker cabinets make a big difference also. I have a JBL K130 15" speaker that was originally in an open back cabinet and did not like the lack of bass response. I changed it to a closed back cabinet and now the speaker sounds much better to me.

George, I had a similar experience. I tried different speakers with my NV112, ended up selling the amp because I wasn't satisfied with the sound. Then along came the EPS-12C, I put one of those into my old Peavey Special 112, and now that amp is a keeper.

I agree and have been playing "musical chairs" pardon the pun with speakers for quite a while. Putting an expensive heavy duty speaker in an amp sometimes is not the answer. It depends on the amp and the speaker.
