A remarkable, Academy award nominated doco, 25 minutes long. Farewell Blues at 9.25 and a wild version of Steel Guitar Rag on the end credits. Interviews with Bennie Nawahi and Gene Autry.

"Television, a box where they buried vaudeville."

That was great. Thanks for posting Guy. I loved the part where he was playing the uke and harmonica and at the end said he was 82 two weeks before. Just to make it to a 82 would be great but to stil be able to play like that is even better.

Every one should watch it for the history and music.

Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for this film for many years. I first saw it in the mid 1980s on our local PBS station. It was produced here in my area by the film dept. at Hampshire College (the same dept. that Ken Burns graduated from a couple of years earlier). The film caused quite a stir here in the 1980s and a local theater brought in Roy Smeck for a performance and seminar. I was playing 7 nights a week at the time and was too busy to go, but now I wish I had. From what I can gather, Roy remained an old-style vaudeville player for his entire life. According to postings I've read, he didn't seem to know or care about any modern music (post war). He died in the 1990s.
