No video, but here's 14 6L6s lined up ready for work
I'm going to try to find a speaker extension cable to run the UL Twin into the 15 in the RI's cab, and the RI into the two 12s in the UL.
Left to Right, RI Twin with Jensen 15, Super Twin Reverb into Tommy Huff cab, Ultra Linear Twin with two Fender 12s.
Right now, the Super sounds best, the UL second and the green RI in (in the words of Nicholas Parsons) a strong third place. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Thanks for the post. Could you elaborate on what you like most about the Super Twin sound? |

Thanks for the post, cool idea.
I'm guessing using one speaker or cab might help define things as well.
Does the signal to the super go through a reverb first , and does that make any difference?
Single Coils ?
Pot Pedal ?
Looking forward to your findings, thanks again. |

My Super Twin has built in reverb: I used to have a Super Twin sans reverb, and I traded last week with Walter Killam for the UL Twin on the right.
I bought my first Super Twin by accident not knowing that there WAS a non-reverb ST. Until it arrived without a reverb knob or tank.
Walter wanted it for a bass amp, and I didn't use the ST, so we each had 700 dollar doorstops. Now we've traded and are happy. The Super Twin Reverb uses a different tube as a reverb driver, a pentode instead of the triode of the Twin. And it DOES sound different, I say better.
I'll be back tomorrow, the lovely Denise Gray requests my company for a fireplace date tonight. More info tomorrow. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

BTW, the gear used was (I forgot a fresh battery for the Izzy, so it wasn't used)
Zum D-10, 18.5K TrueTone on E9th, E-66 on C6th
Goodrich L120
Two cables.
SDF powder coat bar, and an SDF brass bar.
I thought effects would muddle things. All toys stayed in the seat. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I have found it is a lot of fun to switch amps/speakers around.
Sometimes the results will surprise you.
Something you think would not work together ends up sounding very good & vise versa.
You never know until you experiment.
Plus most all of us hear & like something different
that maybe other folks don't care for that sound.
It all comes down to what sounds the best to your 2 ears!
Enjoy .... Ron

Hi Lane, that picture makes my back hurt!
I'm glad you are enjoying the UL twin, I've been using the ST for rehearsal, and it's going to work well for me at small gigs too. It's nice to get both of these great amps back in service! _________________ Mostly junque with a few knick-knacks that I really can't do without! |

I need to clean the pots, as they're a little scratchy.
But it sounds EXCELLENT.
Going to rig up an extension cable to let me try the UL into the 15 and the RI into the 2/12.
If I want to swap cabs, I'll need to find another green chicken head. The RI doesn't have a Master Volume. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Joe, the Super Twin is a bit "fatter" and more "present." It also has a Presence knob in the passive tone stack, so you can cut the highs a bit and give more ultra highs.
PLUS the 5 band active EQ. Many people would like a little more beef in the bottom, and I ran just a titch of boost to the 450, 235 and 110, leaving the other two bands alone.

Lane I just posted an ad in the amps and accessories section for an amp switcher. You may be interested in it for experimenting. Your post reminded me that I had it.
