What would be the best rack case to buy for a Profex. Thanks in advance.

Allan

I guess it depends what you want to do with it - ie take it out and about or keep it in the home studio. I bought an SKB 2unit case and installed my Profex and Korg tuner, using a stand to sit the case on. These are the "plastic" cases with clip-on ends for transporting the unit safely. There are similar, but cheaper makes available eg Stagg.

SKB now make a shorter version which reflects the fact that most units are now not as deep as they used to be. These do not seem to me to be quite as substantial in design as the older versions.

There are fabric covered totally rectangular MDF type units - which to me are aesthetically pleasing but they seem to be expensive, but Maplins do a cheapish version and then there are the cased or uncased studio rack systems.

I wanted a unit I could stand on end (I did not want to move it about) - such a thing seems difficult to find. In the end I found an incomplete 4 rack SKB type case and used a hacksaw to cut a channel for the cables.

Regards

Mike

Alan, I use SKB 4U. I profex in it plus a 2u studiomaster 750 amp. This leaves 1u free, was thinking of korg rack mount tuner, but not getting any younger and with the two nashville cabs I reckon I've got too much to carry already.Had mine about seven years now with no problems, which must be about the last time I saw you when I was playing with John Wesley at Sandylands Festival.

Check into any of the companies that make the sidekick style three door racks. It's great to have your preamp sitting right next to you, and the flip open door on top is a great place for string clippers, ebow, whatever you use, as well as holding a cheat sheet for those sit in gigs. Most of 'em now come with external patch points for the AC cord and speaker cords.
