The tone control on my Remington D8 doesn't work. A friend worked on it once and it worked for a while and then quit again.
The steel sounds fine and I'm assuming that I'm getting the full output of the pickup, which would be the same as the tone control in the full treble position. Is this correct?
I'm inclined to ignore this for now, unless having a working tone control is a major advantage.

Tone controls are simple. I'd try just replacing the pot.

Yeah, that's correct--'wide open' treble position basically means that the tone pot is not shunting any signal to ground and it is essentially like there is no tone control (some people are not totally solid with this and that's why you will see toggles to take the pot entirely out of the signal path---a higher value pot like 500K or 1 meg helps to ensure that no signal gets lost.)
If you do want to try to hunt down the problem, flow out the solder on all the connections on the pot making sure that the lug going to ground has good continuity. But if you're good with things as they are, you are good. |
