Cabinet drop refers to the dropping (lowering in pitch), of a non-pulled string when a pulled string is raised. Most PSG's have this problem more or less.

All these years, I was lead to believe by the local experts that cabinet drop was when you let the sucker slip out of your hands while standing on the tailgate of one's pick-em up truck.Ray Montee

Jim, with your tuning meter on, hit your high E string, press your A&B pedals down, watch if the E string drops on the meter when you press the pedals. Also, hit your sixth string, then press the A pedal down, watch for the six string to drop on the meter.
I just talked to someone who had six cents drop on their E's on their Sho-Bud Super Pro when they pressed A&B down. An unplayable guitar. By comparison I just sold two Mullen both with near zero drop. My 1971 ZB has nearly zero drop after Jerry Fessenden worked on it. My Sho-Bud Professional has near zero drop, but my LDG has about two cents (which is still in tolerance). Some drop can be taken out of a guitar with proper maintenance.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 13 February 2003 at 10:28 PM.]</p></FONT>

Just a small tweek of the bar or pressure useally cures the problem. After all we are listening for the sound like a good fiddle player would do.

Although it's called 'cab drop'..it's not in the cabinet. Ron Lashley Sr. could not have completely fixed the problem with his 'counter-force' mech in the Lashley III's if it was. All guitars got it...he fixed it for Emmons.
