There has been a lot of posts related to modifying the NV112...from chips to speakers.
I thought it would be nice to hear from owners that have not modified their NV112 and why they like the "stock" sound. |

I have been playing a stock NV-112 for close to ten years and it has served me well. I had another one with the upgraded chips and it seemed to me I could get to the same place with EQing a stock one. I can tell more difference from one stock one to another than one with a chip upgrade and one without. All that said, I don't question someone else's judgment in what they hear. I don't like the reverb in any of them and prefer to put a Lexicon digital reverb in front of mine. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

Tom, Hi, I had two 112's, one of which I still have. I loved the amps. Tone, weight, size, easy to haul. Had the mods not come out I still would have been very satisfied with no complaints. But the mods and speakers did come out. Yes it improved the sound by cleaning it up. In one I got a deal on a used 1502 and yes it did clean the tone a little more while ADDING more weight. But bottom line for me is that the 112 is just fine "stock". It was designed as a practice amp. If it doesn't float your boat find one that does. My 112 has always been a keeper, I just happened to mod mine. Good luck and listen to the great forumites. A wealth of info here. _________________ Keep pickin', Larry |

I've had my NV112 for about 3 years and tried the new chips, but I
liked the stock chips better and put them back in. I just use an RV-3
with it it and get a very nice and clean sound. We all hear different. _________________ aka "Lucky Kay"--Custom built Rittenberry SD10 3X5, Walker S/S, NV-112, and Hilton Pedal |

Quite frankly, you would most likely only like the stock sound if you never heard an Eminence EPS-12C in the amp with a chip mod. Whole different amp. 300% improvement. |

I have two NV-112 amps. One for my house Gig and one when I play out or to teach on. They are both stock. I am very happy with the sound. I think it is the best value for a Steel amp available today. I did find the Reverb sounds much better when I added the optional footswitch. I did try different speakers but liked the original Blue Marvel the best. Light weight, plenty of power, great tone and inexpensive. Add to that Peavey dependability and you have a winner. _________________ Emmons D-10, ST-10,LD-10 III, NV-112,Fender Deluxe Reverb. Mine is a 2009 I bought in 2010.I use a Lexicon 100 with it. I also have a Session 400 I keep in cowboy church. I like both but my back likes the 112 better. Wes _________________ Justice S10 Jr, Gibson Electra 6string, Boss Katana 100, Steelers Choice ,Gretsch 6 string lap, Hilton VP |

Although my main amp is an MB 200 and an Eminence EPS-15C, I tried an Eminence EPS-12C in my NV112 and couldn't tame the highs without major cuts on the High and Presence. I took it out and put the stock speaker back in and sold the EPS-12C.
The amp, at least mine, sounds good with the stock speaker. |

Doug's comment intrigued me. Do others agree that the reverb sounds better with an added footswitch?
I know some guys have gone with the economical reverb pan replacement, too.
In general, I love my 112. I put on Jim Eaton's classy chrome knob guard . . . after knocking off the presence knob!
