The other day I found a set of Cobra Coils in my music room. I put them on my steel and they sounded and felt great. Are these stainless strings?

Bruce, they are a composite of Cobalt and Brass, if my memory serves me correctly. I use them also. Love em

How do they sound? Darker? Mellower? Brighter? Thinner?

I use Cobra Coils also. I haven't found anything better.

I've been using them for 5-6 years, since Seymour first offered them. I like them. They last, and keep their tone long past the time that many other pickers would change them.

We even use them over here in Scotland.

The only problem I had with them was excessive string breakage on the (011).
That particular gauge has a few extra twists at the ball which prevents the string from resting properly at the changer on my Williams D10.
I also use them on my Emmons S10 and they last forever.
If I could order them with a shorter twist on the 011 i'd go back to them in a heartbeat.
The bottom line ... Williams owners beware.

I've had the same problem with .011's and .017's breaking prematurely too. Image The other strings sound good and last well though. Image

I broke six 11's in a row trying to get them up to pitch.
I threw the rest away.
I assumed it was a bad run.

Hi Bruce, I got some Franklin strings and they seemed to be very good. I took one of the 3rd strings and held it close to a magnet and the magnet picked up the string quicker than several other 3rd strings i'v tried over the years. I dont know if that means a lot or not. How do you compare these cobras to other strings. You can email me direct if you like.
Thanks, Gary. gnsteele@hotmail.com

I've been using the Cobra Coils since they were made available at Steel Guitar Nashville (mainly because they're cheaper and I change strings often). However, they've turned out to be very good strings in my opinion and I think I'll stay with them. No more breakage than any other brand that I've used in the past.

Re: Bruce Bouton & Jeff Evans,
I have just recently tried my first set of "Cobra Coils" on the job/on my Zumsteel.
I like the sound of my Zum with almost any brand of strings on it,but I have to say that the Cobras gave the Zum a whole new life and an almost magical tone. While stringing-up the guitar,I could actually feel the difference in the quality of the plain strings. I paid about twice the price of what I normally pay for a set of EB,GHS,Fender,or other nickel-wound sets. I'm not sure the Cobras are twice as good as the above, but they are definitely superior in quality!
Bobbe certainly has a winner here! Now if we can just talk him into giving professional discounts!!~~W.C.~~<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Wayne Cox on 22 January 2003 at 02:08 PM.]</p></FONT>

I went to Cobra coils about two years ago and the first set was on there for a year and a half and I did not want to change them.I did and I broke the 3rd string in about a week. I put another one on and they are still on that Fessy.I have then on my second steel and they have been on it for two years.I just got my third steel built and I'm trying the Jag Wires on that one I got from Herby Wallace. I got my Cobra Coils from Bobbe Seymour. I like them very much.
