New Eminence EPS-15C tried it yet?

I'm working with Luker on a steel tube amp prototype and we're at the stage of deciding on which speaker to install. I've used the Black Widow and the EV and both of these speakers do the job just fine but I'm wondering about the new Eminence EPS-15C, which is lighter than either of these designs. Any players out there who have put this baby to the test in concert or stage situations? The 100 watt platform for this new amp is the old Twin Reverb with much more control in the EQ department. I'm hoping this thread will create a serious discussion about speaker performance and tone in tube amplifiers when cranked up to live stage volumes. thnx, Gary

I was part of the Eminence "field testing" of the EPS-15C. I have been using one for over two years. There are many that are using them.

The EPS-15C which is 4 ohms was designed to be a direct replacement for the Peavey BW 1501-4.

The first time I tried the Eminence speaker it sound like the JBL K-130 I had in a Twin Reverb. This is no coincidence since Mike Brown of Peavey noted that the Peavey BW 1501-4 was designed to be a higher power version of the JBL they originally used in the Session 400's.

Was that the Patriot Series or an earlier version?

Hi Gary
I have an Eminence EPS-15C and had the opportunity to try it side by side with a K140 reconed with a 130 kit.
Very close is sound, but much lighter. I'm very pleased with the sound and the weight.
i'm in Portland so if you have any questions or want to check it out PM me.

What I have is identical to what Eminence is now selling. The only difference there are no markings on mine other than PS 15C hand marked with a black marker.

There are some sound bites on my web site of this speaker and comparisons with a SICA 15".

Kevin is all service and great products. I was surprised at how soon I received my speaker. I haven't tried out my new amp yet with a MB-200 and an Eminence EPS-15c but will next week when I get my amp and new cabinet.

Get the EPS-15 and use it with an amp you have now. When it`s broken in, have the new amp fine tuned to it rather than to a new speaker.
That`s what I did when I ordered my custom amp.
Couldn`t be happier!

I hear the Eminence is what Quilter is installing in there Hi Power Steel Aire, they describe the sound as a ORANGE CREAMCYCLE, very clean and true....

I've got two NV400s, each with the Eminence EPS-15C. Both amps have been chip modded. When I first installed the speakers, I would describe the sound a nasally. One speaker is totally broke in now and I love the sound, sweet. The other speaker still has a few hours to go. I did not keep track of how long it took to do the break in. A while, just playing out. I wasn't in a position to plug it up and play a CD through it for a few hours to break it in. That would work.

Both my ears and my back like the change.

What Joe said!
I purchased a EPS-15 from Kevin that arrived with a broken frame due to bad handling by USPS.
Right away he offered to send another speaker or refund me.
That`s what I call excellent service! :D
Thanks again, Kevin….

I play stereo thru 2 housed in Telonics cabs, sound really is fantastic. Give them a chance to break in, they get sweeter with time.

Hi Gary,
Since your post is aimed at Tube Amps, I played thru an old Fender Vibrosonic that had the EPS-15 installed.

Playing with the Steel voicing switch enabled on the Vibrosonic, I found the upper mid-range and treble region to be very clear without being harsh, which was inspiring.

The bass and upper-bass however was not as authoritative as I would have preferred, Probably due in part to this amps output transformer, filter capacitance, rectifier and design parameters.

Overall, it was very fun to play thru this amp with the EPS-15 speaker !
