Which tuner should I purchase for tuning up a MSA S-12 extended E9th pedal steel? Korg or What ? I play at the house now.

Spriggie, There are several good tuners on the market..I have 2 Korg DTR-1's that I am very happy with..They are a rack mount and a bit expensive but I feel well worth it..

I think the best tuner is a Peterson VS1. It is accurate, repeatable, and fast. You will never need another one. Peterson makes piano tuners, organ tuners, etc. They know what they are doing. Check the website. It is about $200.00 at places like Musicians Friend, Guitar Center.

Next on the list is the Boss TU12. Has a meter for tuning sharp or flat. About $65.

I think Korg discontinued the DTR1 rack tuner in lieu of the 1000/2000 series which has more features etc. One cool thing about a lot of the Korg tuners, is that the ones that use the series of LED's use the basic same tuning engine/algorithms. In other words, the only difference between the DTR-1 rackmount and the compact DT-3 is the size/spacing and number of LED's used, and of course the enclosure (the small molded enclosure would cost them like $0.01 each to produce, while the rackmount enclosure would be in the $10 range+ all the extra manual labor to assemble etc).

I guess what I'm saying is, something like the DT3 would be worth looking into. I've been using one for over a year or so now on both the 6-string and the PSG. I do plan on getting another one or 2 in the future (one to keep with my sttl, one for my music room, and another one for where ever *laugh*)

Ricky Davis turned me on to the Boss TU-2 stomp box pedal tuner. It's a little pricey (approx $90--still cheaper than a rack unit), but worth it. It plugs between your guitar and your volume pedal, has big visible backlit readings and the same calbrated pattern as a rack unit. Very cool.

If I could, I'd use Buddy Charleton's ears, my guitar never sounded better than after he sat at it and made six little tweaks in the span of about 15 seconds. That thing even sounded good with me playing it!!!

If you're using any kind of tempered tuning, take a look at the new Seiko compacts- nice digital readout of the exact cents sharp or flat. I got mine for $18 on ebay.
