I'm having Rick build a cabinet so I can split the power from the speakers in my 65' RI Fender Twin Reverb. Has anyone tried or knows if it would be a problem using my speaker cab that has an 15" 8 ohm speaker in it instead of lugging along the amp carcass with the two 12's. Us old geezers have to find ways to lighten the load. I have a Cube 80XL but I do prefer the Fender Twin.

I put many hours on my Dual Showman Reverb (basically a Twin head) with an 8 ohm 15. It was ok and, from most stories you hear, it is ok.
But I have absolutely no idea if a reissue Twin uses transformers as robust. Everything I hear about modern Fenders is that they cut corners on components. So that's where my concern would lie. |

You might have to increase the volume knob slightly, from what you are used to. The amp might run a wee bit warmer, but it should be fine. |

Thanks for the input. I have used the 8 ohm for an extension speaker with this amp with no problems but I was concerned about just using the 8 ohm speaker alone.
These days I don't use a lot of volume, about 3-4 volume is the most I've needed. Mostly 2½.
Jon, I had a 68' Dual Showman w/2x15 D140's that I played bass thru. Great amp, it'd blow my pant legs like a fan if I stood too close to it.

That's why you want to wear the elephant bells with that cab. They'll flap real good.
To repeat, the reissues are not identical to the originals. All impedance mismatches are wrong but you can get away with it with the old Fenders.
With the reissue? I simply don't know. |
