Ok.. I bit. Ordered a Rack Mount Steelaire direct from Quilter. I am lucky have some very high quality tube amplifiers that offer superb tone that are really as good as it gets. The rack Steelaire weighs just seven pounds. Got a Gator soft side, 4RU M-one for just delay. The onboard reverb on the Steelaire I find is excellent. Got nice quality delay with the M-one and could even utilize the second channel for some chorus if so desired. Very easy to get a great sound out of this unit, no not quite the warm syrup, hair around the highs of the tube stuff...but REAl good from a solid state device. So this:

Is a great working set up. Just having got the Steelaire last week, I've played four gigs with it, demanding high sound level bar/club bands. Great direct out for sound reinforcement. Keep the speaker cords rolled up in the back of the Gator, good to go.Great working set up, quick. Certainly not giving up my tube stuff, but this is a very good combination I wanted to share. What a country! |

It's just a matter of time.
I have now used my Steelaire for a total of 4 outdoor gigs... and I only love it more!
It's just a matter of time before Quilter is a steel guitar household name....
... let's just hope it doesn't get so popular one of the big guys like Fender or Peavey (who have backed away from the steel amps)... buy it up, and start looking for ways to make it cheaper

| I've used my Aviator on about four gigs so far. I run it into a pair of D-120's and it is really great. I know it's only a puny 100 watts but it gets the job done. |

| I use my Steelaire for pedal steel and guitar as well. I love the sound and punch this amp provides me, I would love to hear a fiddle through this amp. Hey George, hope all is well with you, keep on picking. |

Hey Morton,
Nice hearing from you! Yes the Steelaire is a great piece of gear in my arsenal. Steelaire is able to handle two of the Neo Telonics 15's, gobs of power, even down at the two ohm level. But so is the amp I got from you, Superb Fox Vintage! Fortunate to have some very fine amps in my possession. I may try my Fiddle thru it some time, but have a acoustic Fishman Performer amp for that. The only trouble with the second input on the Steelaire is that it uses the "same" effects loop and goes to the same direct out. I need a separate DI out for the Fiddle and Banjo. The Fishman Performer accomplishes that. Two channels, two DI. I could get a second and third Steelarie! Well that would be overkill. All set for now, (famous last words)
Still picking, a lot these days.

| I've talked to pat, thinking seriously of getting the rack steelaire. Still setting on this one. Heard good things about it, but a few things i've read still concerns me. And i think Class D, has proven itself as reliable. Dave thanks for your posts, great help to me. |

George, when I was a youngin'... I had my pride and joy Standel 2-12 amp.. loaded with two SRO's stolen from a hotel I played at.
The next day I drove down to Sacramento.. and saw my friend at the biggest music store in the area, at the time... looking to quickly replace my Standel...
He gave me a new-at-the-time Peavey Session 500 to use at my gigs for the rest of the weekend.. and said if I didn't like the sound of the one 15" speaker, instead of the 2-12's... Monday I could return it..
...well I still have that amp (can't lift it.. but still have it )....
Not until I purchased my new Quilter Steelaire have I been that pleased with a steel guitar amp!
...and that's just how much I like this amp.
We as musicians need good, dependable tools, that will faithfully reproduce the sound of our instruments... and pedal steel is just a little more demanding then other electric instruments.. due to the wide range of frequencies we produce.
I found all I need in the stock Steelaire Combo.
.... and in a 35lbs. package.... life is good!

| Thank You again so very much for your help dave. I had a session 500 as well, and the old session 400 with the JBL. Loved them both. Like you, couldn't lift it. Our fiddle player at the time was tall, and had arms like a lumber jack. I never had to carry the 500, he did it for me, and i carried his fender deluxe. THANK GOD!!! |

| One last thing about the Steelaire rack. Saturday's gig was at a big venue that we used a sound company with very high end equipment. The sound guy said the Direct out was clean, quite and mixed very well. A very big plus in the scheme of things when using sound reinforcement. Quick and easy to set up. Very high quality piece of gear tailored to the Steel Guitar world, well done. |
