As stated in another post a cd placed in the center of the front grill has a great change on the tone.I put them on with double sided tape the kind with foam for the center and they never come off.Store bought ones are called beam blockers but the cd,s work great. |

I'm constantly changing my setting just for the fun of it. I have even gone crazy and used some of the heavy metal amp modeling just for fun at jams when other decide to show off..lol
Also I have the WV Beam Blocker (CD on the grill) on one of my 80XL's, the other I keep it OEM.
The thread from last year had extensive suggestions for setting.

How would you guys describe the change in tone by adding the CD beam blocker? |
I did it Jim.. I would consider these observations..
amp sound becomes
more diffuse-
less focused-
less shrill-
rounder-
less harsh-
less "peaky"-...... that sort of thing... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

I agree with Bob.
I would add that it tends to blend the highs and lows causing them to be pushed from the outer portion of the cabinet. There is no longer those center highs that sometimes are present. _________________ 2010 Rains 3x5 SD10, 2006 Rains 3x5 SD10 Powered by Quilter Tone Block 202 and 15' and 12' Custom Speaker cabs |

Jim the 80XL is not predigest to genre of music
Lee I like the clean look of the OEM Blocker but at the time I installed mine as I was experimenting on a quirky high pitch that was bugging me. I first thought it was the GFI I was playing at the time ( a lot of it was ) but my Rains had a touch of it using the 705 pup. _________________ 2010 Rains 3x5 SD10, 2006 Rains 3x5 SD10 Powered by Quilter Tone Block 202 and 15' and 12' Custom Speaker cabs |

Oh, so you removed the grill and put it on the inside. You think it's just as good to tape it to the outside? (I guess it'll get rubbed off in transit sooner or later, though...) _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Jim 4 screws hold the grill in place.
I added a backer to the CD and used the black screw/nut.
Yea I worried about the tape letting loose. It took about 5 minutes to round up the screw/nut, old CD and a piece of plastic that I used after drilling a hole to fit the screw.
I re-attached the grill and preformed an A/B test (as I own two Cubes). My wife who plays bass in our group said that she much referred the the Cube with the home made beam blocker. She told me at times the Cube reminded her of how much she hated my Stelling Banjo when we played bluegrass.....lol _________________ 2010 Rains 3x5 SD10, 2006 Rains 3x5 SD10 Powered by Quilter Tone Block 202 and 15' and 12' Custom Speaker cabs |

Jim,try a cd first and then an old 45.The 45,s really choke down the sound which could be good for certain gigs or recording.I like Debbie Boone or Debbie Gibson cd,s and 45,s the best as stated on an earlier post. |

Lee Baucum: How is the Roland insignia plaque or placard installed to the grille? Is it screwed on from the inside, or is it held by double-sided tape? |

There are small screws on the back that you access by removing the grill.

Correction - The screws are accessed from the front. There are small, flat pieces of metal on the back side of the grill that serve as nuts. |

Aha. I've just noticed that. The plaques also vary in size from amp type to amp type. I have a Microcube which has a slightly smaller plaque, also screwed on from the front. |
