Herb Remington on Vinyl

Post by Bunky Markert »

I met my friend Judy (Johnson) Jones in our bookclub, and came to discover she was once a showgirl back in the Ratpack days at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. She has reunions with her former dancer pals, and regularly visits her hometown of Houston to see family and to stop in to check on her dear friend Herb Remington. She took dance lessons at an early age from Herb's wife, and got her start in her dancing career doing the hula with Herb's band. That's Judy in the lower right. She is a striking woman today and must have been something else hanging out with Frank and Sammy.

She showed me a self produced LP that features her and Herb's band from 1963. Unfortunately I took these photos with my cell phone so they are not great, and the LP had shrink wrap on it that I did not want to remove. But I thought I'd share and see if any of you recognize any of these folks and where they might be. She told me that Herb is doing OK but would probably appreciate friends to stop by and see him, and maybe pick up some CD's and things he has available.

That is a beautiful LP. I have it in my collection and absolutely love it.. Also, have several other LPs and CDs by Herb. Met him one time when he came to our HSGA convention in Joliet IL.

Herb is one fine Hawaiian player, probably my favorite of all the western swing players who could play Hawaiian style. Check out the tune Hula Palm.
