| Does anyone use the Tascam or Zoom hand held recorders for practice purposes? I need some feedback to shame myself into improving my "--- awful" playing. |

Hi,
I have the Tascam DR100-mkii and its a nice recorder. I see B&H Photo has them for about $50 less than what they were a couple months ago on special.
It has variable speed which is nice to practice with. You can tune to your guitar or slow down a part you want to learn.
You can record in several formats and easily dump stuff to or from a PC.
There is a remote control and some other stuff in the box that I have yet to use.

I have a Zoom H2N and I am really impressed with the quality of recordings.

I have a little Sony ICD SX 68 that I bought about 6 yrs ago. And it does an outstanding job especially for as small as it is.
What you record is what you hear back, when I play it back through regular PC speakers.
Of course the newer products should be even better because of all the added features. |

I am using the same brand , Zoom Q3HD with video option. sound quality is good |

I have a cool Alesis "ProTrack", which uses an iPod as it's recording medium. This makes for a lot of portability and downloadability for the tracks it records. It does have it's own condenser mikes, but they're only useful on iPods without an internal drive. But it'll accept 1/4" and XLR inputs too, and power up 2 external mikes. I use it all the time just to listen to Ipods, because it can power real headphones too. It'll mount on a camera tripod, if you want to get it off vibrating things.
They seem to be discontinued? You can find them for $100 with a bit of diligence.

Ha! Tom, join the party ! The Zoom H2 and recorders in that same category have been in use for many years now recording all of our bad notes ! My take is these are now essential for any working musician . I carry a Zoom H2 in my gig bag and I keep a smaller Tascam DR03 in the car ! Both record in MP3 and wav formats.
