Emmons or Day?

Simple question. I've always thought the ratio was 80/20. Am I right?

Yes, I figured at least 75% Emmons - 25% Day.

This really isn't a valid poll. Less than 100 out of some 10,000 plus is not a good cross section of the players.

patience, the poll just started at 10:48 this morning. Give it a week or two.
I'm curious too, I think this might be b0b's response to the much older 'Pedal Camp' thread.

Even with patience, I don't believe there will be enough answers to get a real accurate estimate. This question, and I think polls, has cropped up several time in the past. The "Pedal Camp" thread was the best I have seen but it still was not enough to really get a really accurate estimate of who plays what. That was only maybe around 400 names or so.

My first pedal steel, a ShoBud, came with the Emmons set up in 1975. I've been playing it that way all along, so, I'm not going to change now.

It's not scientific - I agree - but I think after it runs its 60-day course we'll have a good ballpark estimate.

Looking at the numbers, I would bet you already have a better than fair "ballpark estimate." If I was still in my avoiding productive work collegiate mode, I could calculate a 95% confidence interval from the current data, but those days are long past!
The Moderator's guess appears pretty good.

It's not scientific, but it's much more scientific than the pedal camp thread, which is completely meaningless in terms of the simple question you've posed here, just someone's (short) random list of whomever, ranging from beginners all the way up to Buddy and Jimmy. I think this will be interesting to follow.

Note that adding a reply does not count you in the poll. Just select one of the 3 options and submit it.
If you don't have a C pedal, select "other".

Until this post, I don't think I ever read the "Pedal Camp"post. I usually don't open the "Emmons vs Day posts". Don't know why I chose to open this one. I also think many, and I mean MANY, others also pass them by. That's why we can't get enough votes to really get a good cross section. I think everyone knows that there are more Emmons than Day players. I attribute this to 2 things:
1) most players, especially new players, order a guitar from the builder and accept what they put on the guitar because they don't know any different.
2) They think Buddy Emmons is the be all to end all, so they opt to use his copedant. Nothing wrong with that.
I started on Emmons. I needed some more knee levers on my first ZB, and took it to the local "ZB Guy". He played Day style, and let me play his guitar a little. I fell in love with the Day setup and have never looked back. And, at the time, I had never heard of Jimmy Day.

smarter good looking people play day. as you know, smart good looking people are probably no more than 20% of the population.

We have had over 150 votes in the first 24 hours. I set the poll duration for 60 days. I think it will be a reasonable sample size by the time it's done.

How do I select one of the options? The masthead at the top of this thread doesn't have any hyperlinks or similar to allow me to click on.
Edit: Ok, belay that. Second time into the thread, the radio buttons showed up. Is the internet weird or what?

I'm guessing most players with no C pedal still think of their basic E9 setup as either Day or Emmons based on the order of their A & B.

I wonder how many Day players had a first guitar that happened to be set up that way, vs. how many made a deliberate change later on. (Won't start a new poll just yet....
) - oh, and at the time of writing the radio buttons have disappeared again!

i already voted day even though i don't have a c pedal (didn't know the rules). but the a and b pedals were already determined one way or the other before buddy and jimmy had c pedals.

I don't think that will make any difference in the overall percentage.
You have to be logged in to to see the radio buttons and vote.
