I need to remove the speaker, but don't want to damage anything. It is very tight and won't budge. Appears sealer is around the speaker...factory, never removed. Any help is appreciated. |

Ray, they tend to stick after many years. Use a putty knife and gently pry around the edge and it will come off (in one piece).
When I built the new cabinet for my NV112 and replaced the grill cloth I had to remove the speaker. It was only a couple of years old and still stuck to the baffle. A putty knife took care of it.
BTW, I hope the show goes well, Saturday. I'm still bummed that I had to miss it. |

Tie a rope around it then hook it to the door knob and slam the door. I think that'll work. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Thanks, all for the information. With my patience, the door knob trick will be the easiest. I'll let you all know the results....have the steel show this weekend in KC so will be next week before I get to it. Jack, sure hate you can't make it. Should be a great show. |

OK Dick did you Dad try that with you for pulling teeth ??????
Mine did and I did not think it was a good idea - but as I learned many years ago in Italy -- IT IS A SOLUTION ------ not saying a good one or bad one but a solution.
Now I have visions of someone tying the amp to a tree - hooking a rope on it and hooking it up to a truck and driving off
Ray - now we are being silly but your real answer is above - I have done a few and it works
Hope these bring some smiles

With every thing except the speaker removed from the cabinet, back all of the speaker mounting nuts off 1/4 inch. On a carpeted floor or piece of carpet larger then the cabinet. Hold the cabinet face up, square to and off the floor between 6" and a foot, and drop it. The weight of the speaker will dislodge itself from the baffle and allow the speaker to fall against the mounting nuts.
One drop usually works. Or at least it worked for me. |

I agree on some amps - on others there is not enough space to move it very far - Many people do not want to drop the amp if the electronics are still in it.
But it works too. I just don't drop customers amps if I can help it - I have disassembled several and there are some you do the putty knife deal and have to tilt the speaker to get the speaker out.

As a former Amp Tech, I would never consider the "bigger hammer" (dropping) approach. |

I use a small off-set screwdriver and small ball peen hammer. Gently tap the screwdriver under the speaker edge, pry up, then do the other side of the speaker. A back and forth effort has always worked for me. |

And, if you drop it on your significant other's foot, you kill 2 birds with one stone. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Thanks, for all the additional suggestions. Finally, got around to trying today, but it is really stuck. Shame to remove it, but I want to try the EPS15 Eminence, before building a cabinet for my GK500. I'm going to try Duane's suggestion. If I get cold feet, ^&* with it. I just don't like the Peavey BW in this amp. I prefer the BW Deep throat in the silver corner amps. Just my ears. I'll keep you posted. |
