Newtone strings

Post by Anders Brundell »

Is any forumite familiar with the British Newtone strings? They sound remarkably good on both steel, standard guitar and bass guitar, and I´d like to know if they are sold under some other name(s), (to a somewhat lower price, hopefully). They are a bit expensive.
(Newtone strings, 11B Stainsbury Ave, Derbyshire DE75 7EL, England.)

Anders in Falun, Sweden.

Hi, I`m a newbie to the forum and to Pedal-Steel as well, playing for just about 4 years after years and years of wielding acoustic and electric guitars. Hello to everyone.
To Anders: I`m using the Newtone-Strings on my Dobro for a year now and I`m really satisfied with them too. I order them from the London Resonator Centre and for further information I recommend you to have a look at their homepage: www.resocentre.com
Good luck
Bye

I've used Newtone on PSG and they're good. I hadn't thought that they were that expensive compared to 6 string geetar sets... bearing in mind that sets for Pedal Steel are pretty much unheard of in music shops here, and the custom gauge strings for regular guitar don't cover it either (try getting a .22 plain! 8^) I got my Newtones via my PSG teacher so perhaps he got me a reduced price (which would be typical) or perhaps the high cost is to do with postage to Sweden?
Sorry, I don't know if you can get these any cheaper.
Good luck,
Dave

Maybe Newtone aren´t that expensive after all - especially concidering their really great tone. However virtually everything is expensive here in Sweden after many decades of socialistic extremely high taxation politics (you don´t know what high taxes are before you live under socialistic governing).
If I could buy them in Britain and tip-toe over the border whithout getting really wet, I would do it right away.
