I just received this sad news from Fred Shannon's granddaughter:
Kimberlee Shannon-Haslem wrote:I am sorry to say that my grandfather Fred (phred) Shannon has passed away on June 6th. I know that he really enjoyed the forum and he loved to post about his passion to play. We will be holding his memorial in Boyd Tx, this Saturday but I felt it was necessary to contact you guys. My papa didn't really have much family left so i know he looked to you guys as family so I just wanted to give you guys an update.
Phred's last Forum post, made last July, was quite poignant:
Seemed to me like Phred never had a bad word to say about anyone. I wish I'd had a chance to meet him in person. My condolences to Kimberlee and everyone else who loved him.
So sorry to hear of Phred's passing, never met him but had many emails between us after I bought his old Millenium.I will think of you every time I play it Phred .Rest in peace my friend, my thoughts are with your family.

"Tone is in the hands. Unless your wife will let you buy a new amp. Then it's definitely in that amp."
We need to turn the TWANG up a little
It's not what you play through, it's what you play through it.
They say that tone is all in the fingers...I say it is all in your head
Some of the best pieces of life are the little pieces all added up..Ron
the value of friendship. Old friends shine like diamonds, you can always call them and - most important - you can't buy them.
Phred was a one of a kind type guy. Really easy to get to know and I always enjoyed our visits, at shows, on-line or on phone.
Our condolences to Dovie and the family.

I was so sorry to open the forum today and see this news. Unfortunately, I never got to meet Phred, but I always really enjoyed his posts and his insights. Such a nice presence on the forum. May God comfort his family and close friends.
So sad to read this news today. Phred was a fine gentleman with a great sense of humor.
I only met him on line, but Bobbe Seymour told me that he had never met a nicer man.
RIP Phred, and may you and Bobbe renew an old friendship.
My sincere condolences to the Shannon family.
