Harmonic Tuning Questions

Is there a way to tune a G note harmonically as a 7th in the key of A and/or as a minor 3rd in the key of E? Will they be the same note? Also, if the 9th string D is tuned to the 6th string's A, will this be the D that's the flatted-seventh degree of the E scale?

In Just Intonation:

In the Key of A ... the G note (7b) is +18 cents sharp of its ET value ....

In the Key of E ... the G note (3b) is + 16 cents sharp of its ET value ...

IF your steel is tuned where the A note is "straight up / ET / 440" .... and your E string is "tuned to it" .... meaning the E is +2 cents sharp of ET (since it is the 5th of A) ...

Then yes ... the 2 G notes will both be +`18 cents sharp of ET.

On this same steel (A tuned 440 and E tuned +2 cents sharp) ....

In the Key of E ... the D note (7b) would be +18 cents sharp of its ET value ... and since the E note is already 2 cents sharp ... that particular D note will be +20 cents sharp ...

If you use the A string to tune the D ... it (the D) will be -2 cents flat of ET (since it is the 4th of A) ...

These D's won't agree ...

Sorry ... I'm just a Hawaiian steel player ... I'm not even sure what cabinet drop is ...

I know I shouldn't be over here ... but this section is fun to read ...

Cabinet Drop is when You put too many dishes and glasses in the cabinet and you didn't set the screws in the celing joist deep enough.
