Anyone know who played steel on the Red Steagall Texas Red album? It was back before they put that info on tape jackets.

Gary Carpenter has been working with Red and it is out standing. I think Gary is one of the most all around player their is and never gets the cudos he deserves.

Gary Carpenter is the most under-rated steel player in Texas. He should be playing at the convention. Maybe he does not want to.

My friend Gary is not under-rated; he's highly respected and has been in the Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame for years. It's my opinion that his lack of participation in the TSGA, and this forum, is his own choice and his alone.

I think I agree with Herb... Carp is a really fine player and for many reasons stays out of the spotlight . After all , he has property , sessions , gigs , and can build a great steel guitar ...not just as one of the newer companies , but for years has transformed guitars into better instruments.
But Sonny Garrish did get to do the Red Stegall things of yrs ago.
