I count mine as one of the finest steels ever made, plays and sounds right there with all the big boys.
Anyone who has a DynaLap (no longer made) is a lucky pup.

I have one of those all finished, but not yet wired up. Here's a video of the other Dynalap model. I expect they'd sound similar:

I got one of the last kits for $275.00 The finished (non-kit) guitars went for $460.00. I've seen used dynalaps go for $300.00-$350.00, though none recently. But that's the ballpark.

I had one for a while. It was great, but I wanted more strings... sold it.

I saw one for $400, no legs and a soft TKL case.

It's a good guitar. You've probably read the complaints, which are minor: the single-coil pickup can be noisy and the tuners can get in the way of your left hand when playing on the lower strings. That's it. I think $400 is reasonable for a well-finished example in a case. I'd prefer spending less, of course, but there are not that many of these guitars out there.

I HaVE A dYNA lAp Steel 8 String and I love it. I just gave up on a S-10 String Pedal steel and I seem to be able to play the Dynalap Steel much better. I know Mark Vinbury that built them and he had the kits to build your own. He gave it all up as he was to busy with Cabinent making for new and older homes. He is just buried in work. I seen the first one he built as he is a member of the RISGA and he had it at one of our first steel Shows.I payed $400.00 for mine also and i had to wait a week before they cleared it at the Canadian boarder. If yo don't buy it let me know as I will buy it.Mine has Gold tuning Keys and Knobs. They are all the same color.

Sam, it looks like Wallace True Tone, single coil pickup.

Keep in mind that these were available either as Kits or assembled. Many were put together and finished by owners. Just something to keep in mind when buying a used one. Winking

Doug has it right - it's a Wallace True Tone single coil. He's right about them being finished according to the skills of the owners, for better or worse.

The Dynalap is a great lap steel I've had one for a couple of years now I bought the kit version
However the True tone pickup was useless it was so unbelievably noisy that it was unusable in a live situation I binned it and got a Vintage vibe CC fabulous tones and very quiet for a single coil.
