What if.....

....people focused less on what brand of steel they played and more on improving their own techniques and abilities as players?

Novel idea huh?

Hey, Jody. You know if that happened, everybody would play like Lloyd. Corky.

Corky, don't I ever wish I could play like Lloyd. However, I'm a firm believer that some people just have more inherent talent than others. Lloyd had much more talent for steel guitar when he started than I'll probably have when I finish. But I can live with that because I suspect that I'm a better basketball player than he is!! Image

Jody--Because we are always thinking of buying a different steel, there always will be dealers to sell us something different so that we are able to keep up with the Jones, the Whites and the Greens. You are right in saying the ability and technique are the most important. Sale pitches aside, we each know what we can REALLY do. Joe

Jody, you are correct. However, I had a steel one time that I just couldn't get past the color combo of it. Nothing wrong at all with the steel. I just couldn't see me on stage with it. When I sat down to play it, it mentally wrecked my thought processing.I sold it.

Larry,
I had one like that,I tried to stain it red but,it turned out a beautifull PINK.I recently rebuilt it and with the help of a lot of forum members fineally got the color right. Now I'm tickeled pink with it.It looks like birdseye with red saran wrap on it.

Corky, I'm still trying to play like you! It must be the guitar, I mean the amp, I mean the strings, I mean the pedal....
Seriously, I am forced to play one of the light weight modern guitars while waiting for my Sho-Buds to come from Nashville. Not even the Webb makes it right. My band is ready to pull my plug. I've lost my character without my Buds. The light weight just doesn't compare. It plays great though.

Jody, you make a good point. I said it before, and I'll say it again...

I'd rather hear Buddy on a Silvertone than a "hacker" on a mint '66 p/p.
