The second is a ZB Custom 3 x 5 which is close to playing condition, ser. no. 246S. It needs a clean and lube and has one missing pull rod and one broken spring. It is Emmons setup. LKL would lower 2 with the missing rod; LKR lowers 4 & 8; RKL is the F lever; and RKR raises 1 & 7. The vertical lowers 10. It has Kluson heads and a massive ball bearing nut. Someone suggested earlier that it was a student model, but it seems very solidly built. For instance would a student guitar have ball bearings in the nut rollers? The frame is a one-piece casting and the underneath seems well-engineered. Can anyone explain the fret markers?
Oh, and what do these fetch?

| I did own one of these at one time. It was a student model, but mine was modified by Tom Bradshaw with MSA parts. It was a 3X4, and worked pretty well. It was heavy and had some cabinet drop issues. This one looks like it has all ZB parts.... |

This is a ZB student model. They used the same changers as the pro models. The nut rollers could be original. Tom Brumley told me that they would install those for special customers and that could be the case here. As for the fret markers.....I was told that Zane Beck got them from a Trojan condom package.....I am not joking!!! I would date this guitar about 1972 or 73 going by the serial number.
