When a player plays a song using the bar with moderate vibrato for most of the phrasing yet, with the last two or three strings "OPEN"..........

to my ear, it sorta leaves "a DEAD Spot"......... just a steady tone, lacking vibrato.

How do YOU over come that glaring musical conflict?

To me, it's a good effect, and sounds kinda like two instruments playing - one with vibrato (like a B3) and one without (like a double-bass). Smile

Several instruments rely on drone tones, and use of "pedal tones" in composed works is common. I'd think the use of vibrato against drones and pedal tones would impart a particularly effective flavor, but not necessarily universally loved.
