At Scotty's convention in the consignment room was a strange looking BMI U-12. I didn't get the chance to check on it so I was wondering if anyone here might know of the why's of this guitar. I checked with Don Fritsche at the BMI booth and he didn't know anything about it. It was a S-12 on a double wide body but the neck was on the back side for some reason. There was this wide empty space in front of the neck and I guess it could be used for a table or something. Does anyone know who owned this guitar? I guess you could set a Marrs Dobro simulator or a lap steel there if you wanted or even maybe a small keyboard. Any info would be appreciated.....Thanks.

jerry--i have a guitar that looks like your description: a twelve string on a double base. i've been told by someone on the forum that it is a sd-12. mine, serial number 0047, has a pad on the front, however, as the one you saw apparently did not. built for comfort, not speed, as the song goes... by the way, mine (four pedals and five levers) is black. it's not so strange looking with the black pad.

Hey Jerry, I just have to guess the guitar you´ve seen started out as a double 12 and somebody converted it to an S-12 and for some reason found it more comfortable to play the back neck instead of the front, as if it were a single frame. Or like our hero, Ralph Mooney, who also uses the rear neck as his main neck.
Kim- A pad on the front What would that be good for? It must take some weird kind of acrobatics to utilize that... Are you sure the pedals are on the right side?

Lee B., point well taken. I was playing in a bar one night and this well endowed young lady came to me while I was playing a song on the front neck and proceeded to lay her "charms" on the strings of my guitar making it extremely difficult to play. What would you have done? I had to go to the back neck of course. Therein, 2 more gQQd reasons for playing a double neck instead of a single.

Kenny...let me guess...hers were tuned "tempered", and yours was tuned "straight up"! (LOL!)

The situation called for a very soft touch to get the desired effects!
