Need a little help here. My back has gotten so bad that equipment weight is becoming a factor in being able to gig. For small rooms , my little Blues Jr. will get the job done. When we mike up, still the little amp works out. I've been playing medium sized gigs with an old Evans 500 that weighs in at around 50 lbs, a bit heavy for me now. I could put it wheels easy enough but you still have to lift it into the back of the truck.
Any good lighter weight options out there that still has the punch but doesn't put me down with a backache? |

Quilter Steelaire
Milkman ½and ½
The. GK MB200 into a cab with a neo 15. I run my Super Twin Reverb into a Tommy Huff cab with the SICA 15. Of the cab (NOT the head), Mrs. Gray says "I have purses nurses heavier than this!"
In this age of neodymium speakers and Class D power amps, the only reason to have a heavy amp is because you LIKE it enough to schlep it.
I think all three of the above have the same power as your Evans for under 30 lbs.
Regarding the GK, I've played one. I got a nice tone out of it. I sounded like me. But it didn't make me smile like my heavy Fenders.
Of those 3, I'd get the Milkman. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

the 300 watt, tube hybrid Half and Half clicks in at 28.5lbs
the idea of the amp is that its loud, sounds great, and is dead simple to use. Just one volume knob _________________ Milkmansound.com |

Come over to the Florida Steel Guitar Club's monthly jam tonight. You can hear my MB200 amp and Eminence EPS-15C combination. Bring your steel and join the jam or just bring your steel and plug into my amp and try it out.
MB200 - 2 lbs.
EPS-15C in cabinet - 23 lbs.
A little over an hour drive from Orlando (depending on where in the Orlando area you are).

Thanks guys! Rather than kind of depressed, I now looking forward to testing out what seems like a lot of good options.
Jack; I saw the post a bit late for thus month, but I think I should plan on next month. If you wouldn't mind, could you PM me the club schedule? Sounds like a good way to spend a few hours.
Apparently I've been out of touch too long. |
