Red Rajah Bars

Post by Hap Young »

I just received my Red Rajah bar and picks, and if you havent tried one yet you are really missing out. I didn't realize how much friction there was in my old bar until I tried out the Red Rajha. Boy they are slicker than snot. Also the picks do stay on your fingers. Mine was a 3and3/8 and weighs 8.4 oz. 7/8 dia. They come bigger and smaller. Try one and you'll be glad you did.

I like these bars also and have two (one red 10 string, one black 14 string).

One thing I recently discussed with a few guys at the convention... Stainless steel wound strings seem to increase bar to string drag and wear off the Rajah finish faster than Nickle wound.

Anyone else notice this?

Dittos, Pete. I love my Red Rajah, but it doesn't like stainless steel strings. Using it on stainless, the bar began to develop a few rough spots. Funny thing though, I continued to use that same bar but only on nickel strings, and the rough spots mysteriously went away in about a week's time. It's as good as new again. Who knew?

How much more "traction" does your index finger get on the Rajah? My finger slips too much on my chrome bar. If that finger didn't have a touch of artheritus in the joints it would work a little better. I have been thinking of a Rajah as a replacement for my chrome. (Or maybe I can glue some velcro "hook" on my bar and make a "loop" finger sleeve to wear!)

Budd,
I havent used the bar enough to give you an honest appraisal of the grip yet. It is suposed to bestickey on the fingers and slippery on the strings. Slippery on the strings it sure is. This in itself may help your situation some. I know that the picks stay on my fingeres better, and dont come off.

I can attest to that too. I switched over to them for just that reason. (I gotta admit I like the way they look though.)

Kenny,
The literature says that it is a powder coating . It feels like an epoxy coating to me. Go to Brads page and read about it.

Just getting back into the PSG world and was wondering how the tone sounded using the Red Rajah bar and picks. It sounds like a product I would like to look into. Is there a internet site or some where I can look and find out more about purchasing this product? Thanks for the help and information.

Thanks Randy. I took a quick look at their site. Saw something about a Black Rajah bar and picks also. Do you or anyone else know anything about those?

The black Rajah coatind is suposed to be harder than the red. I dont have one yet but I will surely get one. And the price of these bars seem to be right too.

I have not noticed any difference in tone since I switched over to the red picks.

The bar does sound different, and personally, I prefer the sound of the zirconia bar.

I bought a black one in St.Louis. I like it very much. It's a 15/16 and it's easy to hang onto and it makes reverse slants a lot easier.

I have used the Red bar since Scotties last year. A good friend on mine Dean Neeley let me try his and I had to have one. I dropped mine on the driveway and it chiped the end but was still very useable. I took it with me to Scotties a couple of weeks ago and they replaced it with a black bar. They were out of the red ones. I also purchased another black bar and keep one in the house and one in the van. Its the best bar I have used yet and is very slick on the strings and stays put in your hand.

This thread had a lot of comparisons on bars, materials, and strings:

The guarantee is certainly good. I had some of the coating come off, they gave me a new bar. No questions asked. Also I love the bar.
