I have a National twin 8 that looks like the last one pictured under Electrics, Electric Grand Consoles and other lap steels at Notecannons.com The tuner buttons are in tough shape and will need replacing. Anyone have experience with this and advice on the right buttons to order?
The shaft below the button mic's at about 0.140 in. and I can't tell if it's round or rectangular inside the button. The guitar is currently functional, so I hate to crack/melt one off until I have the new buttons ready to go.
Thanks,

On mine I've decided to just replace all of the tuners with ones with metal buttons so no one will ever have to deal with it again in the future. It's less expensive then having someone replace the buttons, but if you were to do it yourself, you'll save money. I don't trust my skill set.
Stew-Mac has the buttons and a replacement guide on their web site. The tuners have little ears on them once the buttons crumble off. So I guess that makes them rectangular. |

Thanks for the info. The ears on the shafts is important to know. I think I'll tackle this project between shoveling snow and spring planting. If winter ever ends, that is.
