Check out my totally mediocre playing!

Post by Travis Lyon »

Hey guys, I've only been playing a bit under 2 years and guitar is my main gig, but here's some live work I did with a local singer here in DC, Tom McBride. Forgive the one clam in the solo, which comes in at around 2:00. Feel free to give me constructive criticism.

Nice! Next time ask the bass player if he wants to borrow your tuner.

Sounds pretty good! Stick with it, you and that band have a lot going for you, IMHO.

You're really doing great. Good fills right where they should be and what you're playing fits the song well. You're on the road to becoming a good steel player so keep up the good work.

I didn't hear any problems in the solo. I only hope I am that good at 2 years. Great song as well.

Thanks for the kind words, I just got out of the studio with my other band and it is more straight forward country, once it's mastered I'll be sure to share it on here. The studio album that the song in the original post is from is really great, I'm not on it, but the players are fantastic and it's very well produced. Lyle Brewer, the guitarist on the album "Morning in Glen Burnie", is really a tasteful virtuoso, and at times sounds more pedal steel-like than a pedal steel.

Travis, that was great. It was perfect for the song and, as a bonus, I really liked the song. Where in Jersey are you located? I only ask on account of I spent 15 years in the Mercer/Monmouth area. When I lived there I thought I was the only guy who liked country music.
Keep on playing...Duncan

Sounds great! The two year mark is a big milestone.

Pretty sure its an MSA Steel because I saw "Supersustain" written on the pickup...and somehow, against the expectation of the wisdom of public opinion, it sounds just as it should!
