I had lessons this past summer with Reece Anderson and he played a song and style I will never forget! He was playing a new MSA Millennium, the song was "Malaguena" and his style or picking sounded like a Flemenco guitar, WOW! It was an unbelievable sound on the pedal steel I had never heard before.
Hearing about the great players in St. Louis, I just had to mention about the lasting impression Reece made upon me, besides his teaching and other attributes!!

It's refreshing and inspiring to have the fact reinforced there are dignified, honorable and thoughtful people like you Richard, who are kind, considerate and who make a statement for peace and harmony, while displaying inner peace and the significance of brotherhood. People like you make a positive difference in the lives of many.

It was an honor and a privilege for you to have visited Teresa and I, and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

The first time I met Reese in person (having previously talked to him on the phone a few times) I was so impressed with his Bb6th playing (Bud Cater's, too....same visit....
Reese found out visiting with me that I was a fan of Texas swing & he sent me to meet & hear Bud @ Dewey Groom's Longhorn Ballroom)
that I've always wondered why no one ever capitalized on that with the (9th) sound thrown in.....the same as everyone talks about the E9/B6 all the time. I'm sure in the evolution of pedals the 6th tuning was there first!! Right?? 6th players go back before E9th, or am I wrong??

Doug-You are right, as far as I know. The E6, E13,A6,C6,were all there before the E9 as we now know it.

The way Reece, Bud and Jr. Knight play Bb6 and still get the E9 sound is fantastic.

That is a terrific tuning for every kind of music. But it aint easy, unless you know what you are doing. And they do.

About Richard's comment on Reece playing "Malaguena". I'd sure like to hear that.

Going into the new Millenium , that kind of playing will help show the versatility of the Pedal Steel Guitar.....al Image Image
